Adding a Bomber Jacket to my Spring Staples (New Look)

When it comes to my style, I would probably be regarded as a creature of habit. I don’t like to draw attention to myself, I’m not confident trying out whacky or unusual fashion trends, and I like to be comfortable as much as I can. If I can sink into the background I will.

New Look recently set me the challenge of choosing a bomber jacket from their range, and styling it up with some pieces ready for the Spring weather; the idea being that it’s slightly too warm for big ol’ Winter coats right now, but still far too cold to brave it without a jacket, and a lightweight bomber jacket is a great compromise.

New Look has a really great selection of bomber jackets, so great in fact that I struggled to choose one! I was drawn to a gorgeous khaki version as well as some beautiful floral ones, but wanted to ensure that I’d get plenty of wear from whatever I chose – cue a very basic but very versatile black, quilted, padded style (£34.99). The jacket itself is very comfortable – warm enough to stave off the British chill, but lightweight enough to chuck over your shoulder or squish into a bag.

I can’t remember ever having worn a jacket without a collar, so this I found unusual, but I actually quite like how it looks. I chose this striped funnel-neck body suit (£11.99) to go with a denim skirt I already owned, and I think the funnel neck complements the collarless bomber jacket. I imagine that the jacket will also go nicely with a roll-neck jumper too. I absolutely love the body suit, although it is very unforgiving; I hate when tops ride up when you tuck them into your trousers or skirt, so a body suit seemed the best option. However, I won’t be wearing it again until I’ve shed the extra pounds gained as a result of holiday indulgence! Also, not a great thing to wear if you’re going out for a few glasses of vino, as very easy to get in a muddle – lesson learned from experience!

The great thing about this body is that it can be worn with such a wide range of outfits, and so I’m looking forward to pairing it up with a pair of slouchy boyfriend jeans for a more relaxed look. As fr the bomber jacket, I think this will become my go-to jacket for going out of an evening, as it’s just smart enough without looking too done-up.

To finish off the look, I decided to go for some cute floral print lace-up pumps (a TOTAL bargain at £12.99), alongside a pair of white frill-trim ankle socks. I totally remember having knee-length socks at primary school with a frilly trim, and I used to love rolling them down to my ankles so I looked like I had a doughnut around my ankle – anyone else do that, or just me?! Anyway, for such a bargain price these pumps are so comfortable, and I will be wearing these with denim shorts in the Summer as well as 3/4 length jeans – they make a nice change from my usual plain and simple Converse.

So, there are my new Spring wardrobe staples. Have you tried the bomber jacket trend yet? What do you think – will you be giving it a go?
