Lola and Behold in January

January has been a fairly non-eventful month for me, what with frantic university deadlines alongside placement and trying to maintain a degree of sanity at the same time. However, I thought I would share a couple of noteworthy things from the month, in the hope that I can keep this up and do a regular update each month. Here we go…
New beauty discoveries…
I have recently been buying some little bits of makeup to add to my collection, which I haven’t done for quite some time. I really don’t need to buy anything else, but at times I just can’t help myself, when something looks so new and shiny in the shop, I just want to take it home with me! I recently saw this Seventeen Define & Conquer Contour Kit in Boots, and as contouring is my current beauty obsession, I just had to give it a go. And I must say, it’s a winner. I’ve also been loving Green People’s DD Cream* (yes, we’ve had BB creams, and CC creams, and here’s the very first DD cream!), which is a brilliant hybrid of BB cream and super-hydrating moisturiser, with just the right amount of coverage for me.

A brand discovery…

I’ve read and heard very little about Kiko, but on my way to the #NYLDNmeet last weekend, I popped into the Kiko store. I was blown away by the choice of products and the quality, for such reasonable prices. Slighty more expensive than high-street, but easier on the pennies than higher end brands, without the compromise on quality. I only picked up these three items, but I can feel an online shop coming on very soon!

Black boots and shopping…

I have an ever-growing obession with black ankle boots, and over the last year or so have amassed quite the collection. Heeled ones, flat ones, cut-out ones, leather ones, suede ones – I love them. I am trying to smarten up for work and pay more attention to details, so I decided to get these bargain boots from Topshop last weekend. They go great with black tights and patterned dresses, and are a good for the transition from Winter to Spring. I’ve also got my eye on some great midi-length skirts from Jane Norman, which would go perfectly with some plain T-shirts.

Assignments and Pandora…

Another of my obsessions is Pandora rings. The Pandora bracelets didn’t really appeal to me, but when I discovered the stacking rings I was completely sold. My collection has grown very rapidly, and most of the rings have a sentimental meaning behind them. The beginning of January was particularly tough in terms of assignments, including an assignment that I just did not think would ever get written. I was so relieved to get it submitted and out of the way, that I treated myself to another two Pandora rings – oops!

Chocolate, cats, and relaxing…
I absolutely adore my two cats, one of which is this rather large ball of ginger fluff. He is an absolute sweetheart, and instantly lightens my mood. Cats are such great listeners – they never dispute what you say and are always pleased to see you! In amongst my hours and hours of studying, I have been letting off steam with bucket loads of chocolate. Lindt is my absolute favourite by far, I just wish it wasn’t so expensive!

Wonderful, wonderful tapas…

Continuing on the food theme, two of my favourite foods are Mexican, and Spanish-style tapas. I enjoy making tapas at home, and recently cooked up a tapas feast, which was absolutely delicious! We recently picked up a tapas recipe book, which we are hoping will encourage us to try out some new recipes, although I am quite a fan of just experimenting and seeing what happens! If you know of any great tapas recipes, please do let me know!

Getting back on the exercise bandwagon…

Exercise is something that seems to be ‘all or nothing’ with me. I either run every day and exercise like a mad woman, or I do nothing for months. Since I did the Tough Mudder in October, exercise has fallen completely off the radar. However, I decided to try a gym session last weekend and felt ten times better for it, and realised I need to get my arse back in gear. I got given a Polar exercise watch for my birthday in December, which I am hoping will encourage me that little bit more. I’ve also signed up to do Tough Mudder again in May, so I have no excuse not to exercise!

#NYLDNmeet…

I love a good blog meet, and Saturday’s meetup in London was brilliant. I got to meet up with Mel, a blogger that I have known online ever since I started blogging, and Laura, a fellow ‘Little Laura’, as well as Philippa (who probably felt very tall compared to the rest of us!) I had a really lovely time getting to meet these ladies, amongst others, and feel so grateful that blogging allows me to meet so many wonderful people and experience new things.

Getting a new lens…

Something very exciting happened last weekend. I received a very belated Christmas present of a brand new macro lens for my DSLR. I have had SO much fun photographing everything in sight, and trying to get used to the manual settings for the new lens. I am now keeping firmly away from the ‘auto’ setting, so am trying to practise taking photos every day, in the hope that I’ll be able to improve somewhat. As an example of what the lens can do, all of the pictures of my Pandora rings were taken with this lens.

So, there’s my January. How did yours go?
